Is Your HVAC System Ready for Spring?

By March 31, 2016 Uncategorized

It’s distinctly possible that the Okanagan Valley in the springtime is the most beautiful place on earth. When the seasons change for the warmer, it’s tempting to start looking forward to all the things we’re going to do outside. But let’s not forget about the systems that work together to keep us comfortable inside.

Before you start figuring out all of the adventures you’re going to get up to in the weeks and months ahead, let’s take a moment to make sure your heating and cooling systems are ready for spring.

Inspect and Clean Ducts

The HVAC system in your home relies on the ductwork to deliver cool or warm air all over the house. If the ducts are full of debris or damaged in any way, the system can’t function efficiently. Take advantage of the warmer temperatures to arrange a thorough duct cleaning, and contact a qualified Kelowna HVAC specialist to arrange an inspection of the ductwork.

Change the Filters

Indoor allergens like dust, pollen, and pet dander can be a dangerous air quality hazard. Modern HVAC systems have built-in filters that remove these common household contaminants. It is generally recommended that the filter is replaced every season, but if you have pets or an allergy sufferer in the house, you may need to change the filter every other month, or even every month.

Clear and Test the Fan Outdoors

Hopefully, your air conditioner was covered in the fall to help keep it mostly free from debris. However, an errant leaf or two may still have found its way into the unit. Perform a visual inspection and remove anything you can see. Then, clean the fan blades with a damp cloth. Finally, turn the unit on to test it well before you are using it regularly for the season. It’s relatively easy to schedule an air conditioner service call in the spring, and on the hottest day of the year, you’ll be glad you took the time do it!

No matter how much time you plan to spend inside in the months ahead, be sure you come home to a comfortable temperature by giving your HVAC system the TLC it deserves. If you didn’t arrange the recommended annual inspection of your home heating and cooling system this winter, contact us today!
